Hey everyone. For those of you who are in scouts in New Zealand you will know that in the Self Discovery and Self Endeavour sections of you book one of the options under Vocational, Skills, Hobbies & Interests is to make a patrol web page. So here is my website displaying, what I class as, the basics you need to know about scouting. Included, however, are some games and activities, to make the ride more enjoyable. Scouting is a worldwide organisation that was originally founded by Lord Baden Powel of Gilwell. Every year scouts worldwide participate in camps, tramps and activities that others could only dream of participating. Recently the 18th New Zealand Jamboree was held as well as the centennial World Jamboree. 1st WInsdor scouts were privellged enough to be able to attend the New Zealand Jamboree as well as having a representative at the World one. It's always a challenge fighting the media when it comes to scouting. Unfortunately they tend to portray us as a bunch of kids tying knots and doing old outdoor activities. We do the old outdoor activities to stay true to scouting but the movement evolves as the generation does. It now includes the use of the internet as well other technology. Many youth join and find that it is not what they expect but a lot more modern and exiting. Scouts is not just for nerds as quite often stereotyped, we have many different youth join from all different backgrounds. Scouting runs completly off leader volunteers so it's awesome that the movement is still running strong. This year scouting celebrated its 100th birthday. It would's be possible to keep running without the leaders and youth that make it what it is. I would lke to take this opportunity to thank all those that participate in the movement.
